| Dimitri watching |
Last week I was sitting in the living room watching Dimitri watching Something Special. Dimitri was fascinated, making all kinds of strange facial expressions and giggling a lot. I like watching Dimitri. I was watching him last night too as he slept, his face relaxed, mouth slightly open. As soon as I left the room he woke up...
I'd ordered this DVD along with a box set of Pingu (total running time of 253mins, urgh) in a moment of "what shall we do now" summer holiday desperation. I had been unable to locate an old Pingu DVD in our house, Dimitri is rather
The DVD's turned up last week, when Dimitri was back at school. Typical.
Dimitri has currently abandoned Pingu in favour of Something Special, I'm not to fond of clowns or slapstick humour but I'm at least learning a few more Makaton signs (although I prefer Dave Benson Philips personally). Greek Makaton is different from English, but as it's something which I use to support language only occasionally (when we are out usually) I'm not worrying about this too much.
I was feeling a bit nostalgic though, watching Something Special, one episode is about riding bikes and is filmed in Bushy Park, which I visited on a few occasions whilst staying with my Gran and aunt Margaret during the summer as a child. Well, I'm pretty sure it was Bushy Park, maybe Richmond Park? Or both?
What made me green with envy though is the accessibility and the really cool bike they used which enables a wheelchair to be carried on the front. These can be hired in the park. The bike is from a Dutch company, where I guess they have some experience in using bikes..
Back to harassing the husband about getting Dimitri a bike.
Liz Carr from BBC's Ouch webpage has been trying out adapted cycling in another London park, read here

Those ARE really cool bikes! Good luck with convincing your hubby - a worthy cause! Barbara
Yes, work on your husband..... Though I guess you'll have to get out of the city for Dimitri to ride ( recalling those barriers in your previous post)! I get that nostalgic feel when I read blogs by friends who are in the part of California I grew up in.
TherExtras - aren't they great, never seen a bike with a platform on the front before! Here is a coincidental news piece from last week, someone (an adult trying out bikes in a different park in London

Kristina - very nostalgic for me, both my Gran and aunt were smart funny and a little bit quirky!
I had thought the pedestrian area would be good for cycling on Sundays, (the bike being a mobility aid not a vehicle). Ah well, by the time we get the bike maybe the barriers will have been changed again!
Ι wish I could imagine a Greek "something special" or a Greek Bushy Park...
Athanasia - it would be nice wouldn't it...
I've missed you and Dmitri -- can't wait to catch up.
Elizabeth - thank you! I keep having ideas for something to write, then 2 minutes later completely forget, I think it's some peri-menopausal problem?!
