Senbazuru (two posts in one day!!)
Some time ago (good grief it was November, I've lost all sense of time) Elizabeth wrote a post A Thousand Paper Cranes, I kept it in the back of my thoughts with the intention of folding one or two when I remembered. I finally remembered!!
I was very pleased with my self...
I had actually made more, but my husband, bless him, was in a strop whilst unable to find something or other (car keys, phone, wallet?) and decided to clear the table (something he generally doesn't do unless in a strop) somewhat aggressively... I'm used to this kind of thing. Every time I buy interesting looking fruit to draw, he eats it. Strange man.
Senbazuru "There is a legend which says that folding a thousand origami cranes will make a wish, like for example long life or recovery from illness or injury, come true."
For all my friends, a few cranes. Who knows, by this time next year I may have made a thousand (if my husband doesn't keep clearing the table)
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas (if you celebrate it!) and a wonderful New Year. Good health to you all.

My goodness! Thank you so much for this -- for the beautiful post and for folding all those cranes. You appear to be very talented at it!
I am so grateful, really.
Elizabeth - You are welcome:) I get something out of it too, when there is so little we have control of, it's nice to feel you can do something however small.
I don't think copy paper in the best option:), but I'm starting to get the hang of it now. It's quite relaxing!
My cousin folded 1000 prior to getting married (her husband is half Japanese half Chinese, by way of Hawai'i). She used gold origami paper and they were all arranged in a design and the whole thing framed, and it now hangs in her house.
I'm rather fond of origami myself. I have a stash of Japanese paper just for the purpose! But a napkin will do if you want a droopier crane.....
Very impressive and a beautiful idea. And a funny aside about your hubby.
Hope Dimitri had a super day. Best wishes for 2011!
Kristina - I like your cousins idea! I didn't know there was origami paper...doubt if I'll find any here, I think I could try thin wrapping paper though??
Louise - They are kind of beautiful, I think it's unlikely I'll ever get to 1000 though, they wouldn't survive in this household:) Best wishes to you too!!
Beautiful meditative activity! If you meant you are folding them for your friends - thank you! Origami is highly regarded by all in this house, and yes there is special paper. What a lovely idea Kristina's cousin had!

(PS 'strop' is a new word to me. I think I get your meaning, 'though.)
TherExtras - yes, folding cranes for friends, but,
as mentioned getting something out of it too, it really is relaxing and meditative.
Good to know I'm teaching you knew words such as strop :)
Happy new year! :)
Athanasia - Happy New Year!! Do you think we will make it for coffee this year:)
